We are proud to share that Susanna Jackson, Sustainability Manager and Lead Consultant at Beyondly, has achieved SBTi certification, becoming one of the first globally to be registered as an expert in the field. The certification demonstrates Susanna’s advanced knowledge of science-based targets, as well as her commitment to helping businesses prioritise meaningful climate action towards preserving the planet and environment.
When it comes to net zero target setting, the science-based targets initiative (SBTi) is one of the most widely recognised and credible initiatives. There has been exponential growth in the number of businesses committing to and setting science-based targets since they were introduced in 2015, with targets considered ‘science-based’ if they are in line with what the latest climate science deems necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement – to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
The process for setting science-based targets can be hard to navigate and, with many also now required to work with their suppliers to reduce emissions and support them in setting their own targets, the impacts can be felt down supply chains.
As pressure increases and the environmental landscape grows in complexity, the demand for ‘green’ talent is on the rise. More businesses are seeking expert support in navigating the technicalities of the GHG (greenhouse gas) inventory submission and validation process, and ensuring they are setting targets that align with the necessary criteria. The launch of SBTi’s science-based target setting experts register helps businesses overcome these barriers, formally recognising professionals’ expertise in the area and providing businesses with confidence in the level and credibility of the advice obtained.
Certified experts on the register will have completed a rigorous seven-part assessment to demonstrate advanced knowledge in GHG inventory assessments, modelling targets, the science-based target setting process, and the latest best practice for corporate climate action.
Susanna joined Beyondly in 2019 with a Masters in Climate Change and Environmental Policy. Susanna is a full member of ISEP, a Chartered Environmentalist and trained B Corp consultant, delivering services for hundreds of Beyondly customers across a wide range of industries; from carbon compliance, carbon footprints, Net Zero and science-based target setting, ESG, and B Corp consultancy. Gaining SBTi certification further demonstrates Susanna’s strong dedication to environmental protection and helping businesses take practical steps to drive positive change for our planet.
