Beyondly Highlights Insights from the 2025 Resource & Waste Management (RWM) Expo

On the 17 & 18 September, Beyondly enjoyed two busy days at NEC Birmingham, for this years Resource & Waste Management (RWM) Expo. The event offered a great opportunity to connect with industry peers all invested in the pressing issues that are shaping the future of packaging and recycling.

Organised in partnership with leading organisations, including the Chartered Institute of Waste Management and Environmental Services Association, RWM provided a platform for Beyondly’s team, to delve into procurement, packaging policies and waste & resource management, liaising with Environment Agency bodies, Defra, reprocessors and our own members obligated under pEPR.

The event itself offered a strong programme of talks and panels, including:

  • A Circular Economy Taskforce panel exploring the upcoming release of the Circular Economy Strategy.
  • An insightful debate on the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) hosted by letsrecycle.com.
  • Margaret Bates’ final panel appearance as PackUK Head, reviewing the evolution of pEPR and looking ahead to what’s next.
  • Emma Wilkinson, formerly of Beyondly and now with WRAP, sharing a global perspective on the development of pEPR across different markets.

Beyondly were also able to contribute to the agenda as well connect with key stakeholders:

  • Senior Consultant – Resource Efficiency & Circularity, Charlotte Davies, who presented the Beyondly-funded plastic recycling campaign with Recoup and Preston City Council, an initiative now shortlisted for an award at the upcoming LARAC conference.
  • Beyondly’s procurement team met with reprocessors and recycling partners, who we work with in both the procurement of PRNs and WEEE evidence, to support our continued work to ensure the most effective annual procurement strategy.
  • Relationship Manager, Catherine Guy engaged in supportive discussion with our customers, delving into the specific challenges business are facing in relation to resource & waste – especially as we come close to another EPR submission.

RWM confirmed the ongoing challenges faced by the industry today, but gave further insights into what we can expect from the future of resource & waste. Beyondly endeavour to take these learnings and continue to support in the development of new guidance, through their partnerships with CIWM and affiliation with the Packaging Scheme Forum (PSF), to support members through these changes, as pEPR settles and continues to evolve.

If you didn’t get chance to speak to Beyondly at RWM, reach out to our team to chat through your challenges, or catch us at another upcoming event – we are well and truly in event season and Beyondly are everywhere!
